Trey graduated from college on this date and treated the crowd to a killer Alumni Blues. Letter to Jimmy Page featured a drum solo from Fish. Suzy Greenberg included Dave’s Energy Guide teases. Trey referred to the "With" portion of The Curtain With as “A Living Nightmare.” McGrupp featured Fish on trombone. The listed encore may actually be the start of the second set; the first set appeared to end after Alumni given Page’s comments.

thelot The Soundboard recording for this one is a bit high in cassette generations. This took away from the overall enjoyment of the performance. With that said, what’s available from this night is pretty straightforward for the time. A few highlights worth noting. Funny banter from Trey following Curtain With (fans these days would pay top dollar to witness/experience that “living nightmare” in real time!) Funky Bitch featured a nice solo from Mike. Back to back Jimi tracks…First recorded version of Bold as love, inspired Alumni following Trey’s graduation. LTJP featured another solo from Fish like the version for Del on 5/21. Not for everyone but I enjoyed this version of McGrupp with a little Moses!

westbrook Satin Doll is ok. I think Trey's solos in Suzy are kind of awkward though. He just jumps right in, seemingly trying to play as many notes as possible. The Curtain With is definitely rough, as Trey refers to the jam as "a living nightmare," and claims that Fishman wrote the whole song. Funky Bitch, Fire, and Bold as love are fine. Colonel Forbin's Ascent and Mockingbird are a little off in some places, but are decent overall. Golgi is alright. Alumni Blues> LTJP> Alumni is fun and well played, as Trey just got his degree earlier in the day and apparently shows it to the crowd. McGrupp is kind of meh with the trombone. La Grange is pretty good.

Review by TheEmu

TheEmu Suzy goes heavy into DEG territory, but is also fairly lackadasical. The jam in the Curtain isn't THAT bad, I guess, but it's not good, and Trey calling it "A Living Nightmare" and blaming the whole thing on Fish is pretty funny. Funky Bitch is also pretty rough, although Fire and Axis are not too bad. I really don't care for these early, slowed-down version of Forbin's, and the Mockingbird isn't too awfully sharp. What else can I complain about? Oh, yeah...the trombone solos in McGrupp will just NEVER sound right to me, even though I love horrible Fishman solos. The 'Grupp is decent, though, along with the Alumni, but overall this set doesn't get me too excited. 2 stars for The Living Nightmare.
