The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
I don't know which app you've been using but it's been pretty reasonable for me in the past. Not to mention you must be from a different era, more traffic on any site / streaming service brings in more revenue than a one time download. Maybe you should support Dead & Company or something that just hoses you even more on ticket prices and fails to even give you a one time listen on an app, or an official download.
Side note: There are plenty of FREE audience recordings if you're interested. Ever hear of Phish OD, bt.etree.org, or the rest of the internet?
Question: How's your entitlement status today? (Seems pretty high) Personally I consider myself lucky to be able to see a band I love in some of the best venues around, even if that means paying a little $$ and not getting something that we've been gifted in the past. It seems like if it were up to the band they'd do it all for much less, but you know, those people who take care of all the spun out Wooks probably deserve some pay, not to mention all the other people who contribute to the production. I find it funny that most of us won't bat an eye at paying $4+ for a coffee but complain about stuff like this.
Don't be mad at the band, take it out on the industry. 10$ of your ticket price goes to people in offices that you've never even heard of, and another $10 goes to their bosses, oh yeah, and another $10 goes to some asshole's big bonus for having a prestigious title. Don't be mad at Phish for still giving you a service that most bands don't even offer.
Enjoy everything while it lasts and stop complaining!
