The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Our initial push is to sell the book directly to fans. Frankly, we invested a lot in this book, regularly opting for highest quality where other publishers might cut corners. Full color, high quality paper, premium stitching and an amazing cover lead to a book that is not cheap to produce. But by selling it directly to our fans and supporters (and we do think we know where a lot of you hang out...) we look forward to lots of direct sales, each of which earns us some real money that lets us both pay the printers, and fund more amazing grants for the kids.
Very soon Dry Goods will offer the book, and it will be available from us on Amazon.com, with fulfillment done by Amazon. As to how hard we will press to get the book into other shops, that's yet to be seen. But let's start with your record store and see where we can go from there.
