MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 405

Welcome to the 405th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday, the last and hardest contest of February - thanks to MJM Hall of Famer @HarborSeal for his help crafting this puzzle! The winner will receive an MP3 download code courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and dates of all three mystery clips. Each person gets one guess to start – if no one answers correctly in the first 24 hours, I'll post a hint. After the hint, everyone gets one more guess before Wednesday at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Good luck!

Hint: Is @stevemott the only one who read the original post carefully and picked up on the hint sitting there all along? This one is a lot easier than it sounds - definitely in the "find one, find 'em all" category - especially if you find the right jam chart, or can answer this question: when is a DDLJ not a DDLJ?

Answer: Congrats to @Zands on their second win! As explained in the comments, the careful reader would have noted the request for the song and dates - the song was "Makisupa Policeman," and the dates were 10/4/99, 6/19/94, and 7/2/95. Monday's contest, MJM406, will be a lot easier - won't you come out to play?

mcgrupp81 First off, good jam choices. Secondly, I was listening to Mexico Night 2 and I was listening to Blaze On and I felt hungry. I said to myself, if I was on the beach at the concert, it would have been cool if they had drones with some string that had chorizo at the end. Then you could just take a piece and enjoy the music without having to move out of place. Then I thought about that turtle from Mario Brothers/Mario Kart games. His name is Lakitu and he's a turtle in the clouds that sometimes throws spiky balls, and at other times he is dangling something via a fishing line. Perhaps Lakitu and not a cloud shaped like a turtle is what Trey is referencing in the lyrics. The only common bond between Trey and this fictional turtle are that they wear glasses, but that's enough for me. Carry on folks.

Good work! I got the 2nd clip but did not find them all, despite looking at several Makisupas. Just didn’t get lucky with the right ones I guess. Ugh, this is a frustrating one. I’m curious as to where the hint “sitting there all along” was? That kind of threw me off. Even after reading it several times over, it seems like the standard OP from week to week. Why do you torture us, Pete?? :D

HarborSeal Ha, awesome. Congrats, @zands. Nicely done.

Pete's hidden hint was the phrase "song and dates." Singular, plural--all from one song!

ETA: oh well. I ultimately was on the right track and searching for one song. There was just another netter that was faster.

A_Buddhist_Prodigy You are all freaks!!! Yes, that is 100% jealously talking. Every time I think I might get to one . . . completely off. I did find a great old, spacey Free!!! That was worth the price of admission!

I’ve done that a handful of times now over the years, and each time it’s flown under the radar

The funny part is that everyone is going to dissect the OP every week for a while now, and at some point I’ll make a typo and it’ll throw everyone for a loop

ChemistryChris Man I was certain I knew the second one (didn't have a chance to look for the other two) - but nope! Those fake-out DDLJs are mischievous.

Zands Thanks, Serpent_Deflector and HarborSeal! :D It had been a while since I had jammed to a great Makisupa so it was nice to listen to those performances. (Makisupa Policeman is stuck in my head now hahahaha)
Oh and thanks Pete for hosting this every week. It's always a fun puzzle. :)

HarborSeal FYI, when I was looking around for clips, I REALLY wanted to find one from 87. The Makisupas from that year are legendary, by turns hilarious and gorgeous. Alas, I couldn't find a clip that was not immediately recognizable as Makisupa, so I gave that up. But y'all should check out some of those early versions if you haven't.
