Top 1 Kid Rock Sit-In

They say only a fool is certain. It’s folly to rank something as subjective as music with an air of certainty. It’s arrogant to declare a “top 1” anything. Every man and woman are entitled to their own opinion.

THIS IS WRONG.

There are some truths so manifestly true that their truth cuts like a fucking truth laser, and here’s one of them: the best ever Kid Rock guest appearance with Phish occurred on the 29th of September, Year of our Lord 2000, at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Should they have played “Cowboy?” Absolutely. Still the best Kid Rock sit-in? You bet your sweet home Alabama.

Were there enough mostly-naked women preening around on stage? No. Still the best Kid Rock sit-in? Name a better one. I dare you.

Would literally any other widely known artist have done better? You know, probably. Still the best Kid Rock sit-in? There’s no contest.

Literally.

Rick_like_an_Antelope I *DO* wish they had played "Cowboy".

...now.

Lee_Fordham "That's enough."

Kid Rock to the members of Phish so they would stop playing whatever song that was.

Mr_Draned Not what I was expecting for #1.
Well done!

paulj I'm one of the few people in the room who'll admit to actually enjoying most of the Kid Rock sit-in.

Which, of course, highlights the need for a "shame" tag.

Looking forward to blastoff tomorrow, whatever it may hold.

HHood I was at this show. Fishman, mocking Kid Rock, was on his knees bouncing around him acting like his mini-me. Kid Rock was a sign of the times. He wins the #1 position as biggest distraction or worst influence. Take your pick. Glad trey made it out of the 2000s alive.

That was not the last Spock's Brain. There was literally one a mere week later. And it's easy to hate on that show if you weren't there. But trust me, you're wrong. Have you heard that Gin? And people were loving the Kid Rock appearance at the time. Everyone was having a blast.

I saw the one a week later, but there was one more at Camden '03. And if you really want to catch one, check out Mike's band -- they knock Spock out of the park.

TwiceBitten Did not realize they haven't played Spock's Brain in 3.0. Is that one of the last originals (besides a few very early ones) they haven't played since they came back? I'm calling it this summer.

In regards to originals they don't play anymore, the most tragic loss in my opinion is "Spices." That is such a beautiful song. Why they only played it twice, in the 2.0 era, and not even once since then, I'll never understand. The song was good enough to open a show with, so it can't be that bad. Maybe Trey decided he wanted to write a gorgeous epic song simply to play once or twice and then shelve it, just for the fun of upsetting people.

FIKUS0824 Sorry for the error on the spocks brain comment, but i love the conversation it started. Spocks Brain, All Things Reconsidered, Fikus. The only three songs i havent heard that i want to!
, comment by TheDude31
TheDude31 I was also at this show and it was certainly high energy through the roof! GA show and people were jammed to the rafters ... Definitely a really fun night in Vegas. I only saw this night and did not go to the next night which was the first DVD release . (Saw the Blue Man Group who were still in the Computer ads!) It was drunkin' fun with Kid Rock on stage and it was entertaining.

J_D_G I'm also a big "Spices" truther. And "Discern." Maybe it's part of my 2.0 propaganda stance. (When TTE was in rotation, I had a thing where I'd hear the very beginning in concert and say "Is this 'Discern'?!?" for some reason.
