Well here is a great show. I had seen the Columbus show 2 days earlier and
thought it couldn't get any better but this show was close. Really close. The
first set was very nice. Highlights include an amazing Wilson and what I
think is one of the better Reba's I've seen live. Trey seemed to be in great
spirits and the band seemed to play on the "heavy" side. Very thick sound for
the show.
The second set is just plain fabulous. The Demand opener didn't really grab
me cause I've never fully enjoyed that song but the Antelope after blew me
away. The best part about it was during the beginning mellow part right
before they rock out. Someone started screaming and Trey held up his hand in
the typical rock fashion with first finger and pinky extended and then BOOM
they took off. Great moment indeed. This Antelope reminded me more of the
older Phish when they just plain rocked with the perfect mix of today's loose
style. Great peak and I thought the balcony was going to collapse. Like the
Reba, it is one of the better one's I've seen live. Halley's Comet is always
fun for me and The Curtain is one of my favorite tunes to see them play so I
was having a great time. Simple was good although not as good as Columbus. I
think this tune has become kinda tame the past few years in comparison to the
versions I heard in '94. Had that real hard/raw energy which may be why
Sanity came next.(well who am I too know) A song I never thought I'd hear
them play live and Trey really belted it out. The transition between the two
was remarkable. Maybe a little rehearsal during the soundcheck. Hmmmm Llama
was as fast and furious as I've heard with Trey screaming something during
the solo. Another personal favorite. The next four songs(two too many) where
acoustic and unmiked which can be frustrating but I did enjoy the novelty of
hearing Cavern this way. When they returned to their electric instuments they
played Down With Disease and the jam picked up where the Antelope jam left
off; furious and frantic. I love it when they play that way. Check out the
second set before the acoustic part and the Down With Disease if you get the
opportunity. Rocky Top and only Rocky Top as the encore was somewhat
disappointing.
